I recently came upon this Always commercial. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to commercials but this one really struck me. I remember being on the playground in grade school and hearing kids putting other kids down. Saying things like.....you do that like a girl. And it was meant to be a bad thing. But I am a girl and yes, I run like a girl. I kick like a girl. I throw like a girl. I am a girl and I like being a girl. There were a few times that people said my daughter looked like a boy. I had dressed her in grey shorts and a tshirt with a lizard on it. Why does that mean she looks like a boy? Just because it has a lizard on it? My daughter has a pet lizard. I love lizards and I'm a girl. I studied Animal Ecology and Entomology in college and I remember by great grandmother saying to me "that's man's work." But is it? I can do whatever I want to do. My daughter can do whatever she wants to do. Look how she wants to look. She will do it all like a girl and she will do it WELL! She will be herself. And I will be proud of her. And she will excel. She will be successful. She will be amazing! And I will teach her......if a kid on the playground laughs at her and tells her that she throws like a girl.....I will teach her to say thank you and to keep doing it just the way shes doing it. Because shes doing it perfectly!
Take a look at this Always commercial and tell me what you think!
When I was a kid I was a very big tomboy. Still not really a girly-girl. I find no problem with girls that like to get a little dirty or wear lizard shirts!
I love this! I hope to raise strong, smart girls :)
